REVIEWS

Camden New Journal “"Genuinely moving"”

A Youngish Perspective “"A truthful exploration of grief"”

All That Dazzles “"An enjoyable watch, well-paced with heart"”

‘I was particularly taken by the constant energizing and thrilling rhythms they found in the almost 2 hours on that useful and well designed stage set...directed deftly by Sarah Redmond’

A Word For Mother is an authentic retelling of age old stories; sisters and their relationships, shepherded by the family matriarch. It effectively analyses grief and what happens to complex and nuanced relationships when someone of huge importance dies – and is an enjoyable watch, well-paced and with heart.  It has a promising future.

The build of tension is quite rapid and the show holds the momentum well, careful to never linger too long or deflect the tension.

Transitions between scenes, especially before a Christmas morning, are particularly done well.

It was particularly exciting to see a functioning toaster, kettle and hoover.

Director Sarah Redmond has been ambitious in her choreography of props, there’s rarely a moment where the cast don’t have an action or prop to negotiate with this. It adds a humanity to the regularity of moments

Where the show thrives is in the intimate live moments, it’s here when being forced to deal with the person in front of them that the writing comes alive and the actors settle into truth.
